Windows is a kind of of operating system which is created by Microsoft Corporation of United States of America (USA). It has launched different versions of Windows such as Microsoft Windows 95, Microsoft Windows 98, Microsoft Windows 2000, Microsoft Windows XP, Microsoft Windows Vista, Microsoft Windows 7 and now Microsoft Windows 8. Windows got its name to the fact that it runs each program, document or file in its own separate Window (a box or frame on the screen). Windows is an upgraded version of Microsoft’s older operating system Disk Operating System (DOS). Disk Operating System (DOS) lacks in many ways in supporting the Graphical User Interface (GUI) software. So in order to meet with the demands of Graphical User Interface (GUI) based software, Microsoft Corporation, USA launched Windows. Windows is not complete version of Operating System (OS) since it works on top of DOS. Different windows can be seen on the screen of the computer at a time, in which every window contains its own document or program. Users can easily swap between the programs just by clicking on the different windows with the help of mouse. Microsoft Windows series is a Graphical User Interface (GUI) based software program that makes our Personal Computer (PC) easy to use.

One of the important and distinguished feature of Windows is the Clipboard feature. Clipboard is a feature in Windows that lets copy material between dissimilar document types, making it easy and fast to copy or cut and paste data and information from a spreadsheet to a report or put a scanned picture of a house into a real state brochure. Moreover, Microsoft Windows provides the means for joining the capabilities of different application programs seamlessly. We can not only paste the portions of one document into another, but also we can utilize the more advanced document-linking features called Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE) and Object Linking and Embedding (OLE to keep those elements live. It means that if there are modifications in the source document, the results will also be modified in the secondary document which contains the pasted data.
