How to enable Command Prompt keyboard shortcuts in Windows 10?

In the final build of Windows 10, Command Prompt keyboard shortcuts are enabled by default. If you haven’t installed the final build yet, you can take a look at the Properties and enable them. To enable keyboard shortcuts, you can take these steps:

  • Run Command Prompt.
  • Right click on the title bar to see a list of options. There, you will find Properties.
  • A dialog box opens. Under the Options tab, find Edit Options section and check the box near Enable Ctrl key shortcuts.

Then, your Command Prompt will support the keyboard shortcuts.

Command Prompt Keyboard Shortcuts in Windows 10

Here is a list of all the keyboard shortcuts that is supported in Command Prompt of Windows 10:

  • Ctrl + C or Ctrl + Insert: Copy selected text to clipboard
  • Ctrl + V or Shift + Insert: Paste copied text
  • Ctrl + A: Select all the text in the current line (in case of absence of text in the current line, all the text in the Command Prompt window will be selected)
  • Ctrl + Up/Down: Move the screen one line up/down

  • Ctrl + M: Enter Mark Mode (it lets the user select text with the help of mouse)
  • Up/Down/Left/Right: Move cursor up, down, left, or right (in Mark Mode)
  • Shift + Up/Down: Move cursor up/down one line and select text
  • Shift + Left/Right: Move cursor left/right one character and select text
  • Ctrl + Shift + Left/Right: Move cursor left/right one word and select text
  • Shift + Page Up/Page Down: Move cursor up/down screen and select text
  • Shift + Home/End: Move cursor to the beginning/end of the current line and select text
  • Ctrl + Shift + Home/End: Move cursor to the beginning/end of screen buffer and select text and beginning/end of Command Prompt’s output
  • Alt + F4: Close Command Prompt
